Frequently Asked Questions
Why have a tick and mosquito control service?
Ticks and mosquitoes can be bothersome at times, but the unfortunate fact is that getting bitten can pose serious health risks. A single tick bite can transmit multiple diseases including Lyme, Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, and Bartonella. The CDC reports Lyme disease as the most commonly occurring vector-borne disease and the sixth most reported infectious disease. Mosquitoes in the northeast can now transmit West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Infections from ticks and mosquitoes are serious, the symptoms can be debilitating and have lasting effects. Our services target the high-risk areas around your home and property, significantly reducing the numbers of ticks and mosquitoes that put you and or family members at risk.
Are YardGuard products safe to use around people and animals?
Yes. All of our organic products are safe for people and pets, and are considered minimal risk by the EPA. You can fully use your lawn once the cedar oil is dry, which typically takes about 30 minutes.
What areas of my property will be treated?
YardGuard targets the areas around your property where ticks and mosquitoes are most likely to be found. For ticks, theses areas include property borders, shaded grassy areas, wood piles, stone walls, and brushy vegetation. During the day mosquitoes can be found in shaded and wooded areas. We are committed to environmentally responsible practices, and do not spray where bees are present or active.
How do YardGuard organic products work?
The cedar oil in our organic product works in several different ways, ensuring that optimal tick and mosquito control is reached each and every time we treat throughout the season. Cedar oil sprayed directly onto ticks and mosquitoes kills them on contact. Cedar oil also acts as a pheromone interruption agent, inhibiting their ability to mate and thus reproduce. Just as important, the cedar oil that is sprayed on your property lasts as a repellent for up to 30 days, creating a barrier around your home or property.
What if it rains after the treatment is applied?
Our product can be sprayed in light misty conditions and is rainfast once the product is dry.
How are YardGuard products applied?
We use a truck-mounted spray tank, hose and gun sprayer. Backpack sprayers are not powerful enough to reach deep under leaf litter, into brushy property borders, or in and around stone walls where ticks and mosquitoes are found. Unlike backpack sprayers, our system is adjustable for effective use in varying weather conditions, assuring your property gets complete and thorough coverage every time.
Will YardGuard products cause any kind of discoloration ?
No. YardGuard treatments do not discolor structures on your property such as walkways, foundations, patios, or swing sets.
Will your service eliminate every tick and mosquito on my property?
No pest control service can eliminate ticks and mosquitoes completely. The services provided by YardGuard will significantly reduce mosquito and tick populations in treated areas. YardGuard makes no expressed or implied guarantee regarding vector-borne health risks to humans or animals. Exposure to disease may occur in uncontrolled areas.
